Earlier this year, Ms. Barrera appeared in an official video, where she discussed “Why is Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility important to you?” Ms. Barrera states that ICE’s “leaders are very committed to DEIA [diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility]” and that she is very proud of the worth that ICE has done through the “Executive Diversity Inclusion and Advisory Council”:
I think when I think about diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, that's always top of mind for me, as an organization, because I really believe that it's the diversity of our workforce, people coming from different backgrounds, experiences, perspectives is really what gets us the best results as an organization.
One of the things too that I just love about ICE and that's kept me here so long is that it's been my experience that our leaders are very committed to DEIA and advancing diversity across the organization. It's not just, you know, speaking to it, but putting words into action.
The things we've been working on, I'm very proud of the work that we've done through the Executive Diversity Inclusion and Advisory Council, to really develop action plans and most recently have been focused on action plans to increase the number of women in law enforcement positions. And I personally was involved in a team effort to help lead the development of an action plan to focus on the recruitment, retention and career development of women in law enforcement.
And you know, there's more work to be done, I think, across the board, but very excited about the work that we’re doing through the EDIAC as well as our employee resource groups to make sure that we’re an inclusive and diverse organization.
This focus on “DEIA” suggests misplaced priorities for someone working in a position with real responsibilities related to national security and law enforcement.
In 2023, Ms. Barrera won a “Presidential Rank Award” for her performance in DHS. This suggests she is closely aligned with the agenda of the Biden administration, and calls into question whether a conservative administration could trust her.
WASHINGTON–Today, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkasrecognized30 members of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) workforce who received the 2023 Presidential Rank Award (PRA) for exceptional service.
“I am incredibly proud of the 30 DHS executives who have been selected to receive this year’s Presidential Rank Award. The award speaks to these senior executives ’extraordinary dedication to mission and exceptional work as public servants, ”said Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. “Our leaders across the Department set the example of selfless commitment and service to the department, our nation, and the American people. They are an inspiration to the more than 260,000 employees across DHS. Congratulations to all of the award recipients and thank you for all you do.”
The Presidential Rank Award is one of the most prestigious awards in the federal career civil service. These awards recognize the hard work and important contributions of dedicated civil servants in the U.S. federal workforce. This year, the President selected 232 winners from 31 federal agencies for their exceptional leadership, accomplishments, and service over an extended period of time. These individuals are all members of the Senior Executive Service (SES), Senior-Level (SL) and Scientific and Professional (ST) corps. Simply put, Staci Barrera would not have received this award if she wasn’t perceived as playing ball with the Biden Administration on the rollout of their disastrous immigration agenda.
