CRCL provides legal and policy advice to DHS leadership on civil rights and civil liberties issues and investigates and resolves complaints. It has long been a bastion for leftist who want to use the tools in the department to frustrate efforts to deport illegal aliens. It has a robust tool kit and if staffed by progressives will be used to block a conservative immigration agenda.
