Cited Want of a “Better Future” As Reason for Illegal Immigration Surge

Served as Editor for Law Journal Dedicated to “Diversity in theLaw”

In 2015, Karine Noncent as a lawyer with AYUDA, a progressive advocacy group, was featured in a report discussing the implications of child migrants arriving in Washington D.C.

“It feels like we are constantly running a little bit behind the ball,” says Karine Noncent Shaw, an attorney with Ayuda. “I don’t think that this is a temporary thing, I think that this is a consequence of bad conditions in other countries of children wanting a better future and believing that the United States offers that.”

Karine Noncent’s above statement says it all – most of the people arriving at the border are economic migrants, rather than legitimate refugees seeking asylum from political persecution.

Served as Editor for Law Journal Dedicated to “Diversity in the Law”

Karine Noncent was a staff editor for The Modern American, an American University Law School journal dedicated to “diversity in the law.” Below is an example showing some of the topics covered in just a single issue of the journal while Noncent served as an editor. Topics such as:

·      “Material Support to Terrorists or Terrorist Organizations: Asylum Seekers Walking the Relief Tightrope”

·      “Combating Gender Inequities in Law School: Time for a New Feminist Rhetoric That Encourages Practical Change”

·      “The Upbringing of a Creature: The Scope of a Parent’s Right to Teach Children to Hate”

·      “Extending Title VII Protection To Non-Gender Conforming Men”

This journal clearly falls well outside of the mainstream, and Karine Noncent’s involvement with it demonstrates a left-wing ideology.

History of Working for Left-wing Immigration Groups

Karine Noncent, an immigration attorney, has a history of working for both Ayuda and CAIR, organizations notorious for their far-left open border positions.

1)  Ayuda recently positioneditself against the Biden Administration Asylum Ban and calls essentially foropen borders:

“Ayuda strongly condemns the Biden administration’s decision to extend and expand its asylum ban at the U.S.-Mexico border. This policy, which mirrors previous restrictive measures, further undermines the legal rights of individuals seeking refuge from violence and persecution. By making access to asylum contingent on appointments through limited channels like the CBP One app, this rule severely limits asylum opportunities, particularly for vulnerable populations, including women, children, and those with limited resources.”

2) CAIR, which has now been rebranded to Amica, is fighting against tougher border policies and attacking law enforcement. Recently, they wrote a report attacking ICE alternatives to detention and how ICE is causing “serious harm” to illegal aliens crossing the border.

“Concern is growing over Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) dramatic expansion of its “Alternatives to Detention” (ATD)programs. ATD includes electronic surveillance using ankle monitors, the SmartLINK phone app, and even smart watches (VeriWatch). Ankle monitors and other GPS monitoring cause lasting psychological, physical, and societal harm to migrants and their families, including anxiety and depression, immobility, difficulty maintaining employment and participating in everyday activities, social stigma, and even retraumatization in some cases.
In our work providing legal services to thousands of immigrants facing detention and removal, Amica Center has seen the serious harm caused by ATD programs. This annual report highlights some overall trends in ICE’s ATD programs over the past fiscal year, including which ICE field offices are engaged in the most surveillance and which surveillance technology ICE is using in different regions of the country.”

Karine Noncent’s prior work with these groups clearly show that she stands on the open borders side of the immigration debate and would be ideologically out of step in a conservative administration.
